So many of us have worked for years at a hum-drum day job – and now we want to get out there and really do something meaningful....
...To make a profound impact....
...To add more PURPOSE and MEANING to our lives...
“I have had Doulas at both my children's births – one in the hospital with a doctor, one at home with a midwife – and in both cases the Doula made a huge difference to the experience.”
- S. Quarrington, Ontario, Canada
Our heart's desire...to profoundly
touch and contribute to the lives of others...but how do we do
that while we're tied up in a day-to-day existence –
stocking shelves, working behind a desk or on an assembly line?
If you've ever felt like this, if you
want to help but don't see how or where to begin, this may be
YOUR opportunity.
I help dozens of local women start
their own part-time businesses – some are only working a
handful of hours per month (that's all it takes to make a huge
difference), yet they all help other women in a meaningful
way.
When you enroll in my training program, I will empower you to go after your heart's desire – to get started – and then you too can make a real difference in the birth experiences of families in our community.
A new movement that's sweeping our nation!
Young couples are looking for MORE
than our medical system has to offer.
Young couples are saying: “we
want to have OUR baby in the way WE want to have
it!” Not like the way the doctor wants to have it.
Now is the time to get involved in a refreshing, NEW mindset that's really taking off! Check it out!
What is a Doula? Why would I want to become one?
“Doula” is a Greek word
referring to an experienced woman who helps other women.
When a woman goes into labour, she wants to have somebody with her who is knowledgeable, experienced and knows what's going on.
NOT a nervous husband....
“About a quarter of the men in our university studies found the birth experience rather stressful. Half were intensely fatigued, almost as much as the mother.”
- Ramona Mercer, Ph. D.
...NOT an ecstatic
grandmother...
And certainly NOT the doctors and nurses who don't have any time anyway.
She needs someone whose single purpose is to support her. Someone who can provide some of the “warm fuzzies” and CONSTANT attention that staff in our overburdened health care system cannot.
That is a Doula.
These are the people I train and certify.
Hiring a Doula is not just for
“hippie-types” or those who want a medication-free birth.
A Doula is for EVERY woman and her partner.
Doulas shorten first-time labours
by an average of TWO HOURS, decrease the chance of Cesarean
section deliveries by fifty percent, decrease the need for
pain medications, help fathers
participate in the birth with confidence, and increase
success in breast-feeding.1
Doulas are good for ALL types of labour – from Cesarean sections to non-medicated home births and everything inbetween.
“The instant of birth is exquisite.
Pain and Joy are one at this moment.
Ever after, the dim recollection is
so sweet that we speak to our children
with a gratitude they never understand.”
- Madeline Tiger
What is a Perinatal Educator and what's so important about it?
A perinatal educator develops and delivers childbirth education classes to expectant parents.
“Despite all the brouhaha raised by the medical profession over techniques of labour and delivery, by far the most important factors in determining birth outcome are nutrition, prenatal care and preparation (like prepared childbirth classes).”
-Rahima Baldwin
I empower you with the knowledge to make better decisions – to know, with confidence, what approaches to take with your client – no matter what comes up.
And also to PROJECT that confidence to your clients. So that they will believe in you.
You will be able to guide your clients with authority – certification provides you with all the expertise to become a pillar of strength when your client needs you the most.
You can help you clients make better, more educated decisions (especially about pain medication).
You can help improve your clients bonding with their babies. The family unit works much better because of your help as a perinatal educator.
Some of our students ask: “What
if I'm not good at speaking in public? Can I really do this?”
Fortunately, you don't need to speak in front of large groups to be a great childbirth educator. In fact, more and more couples are hiring Perinatal Educators because they ALSO don't want to be in a large group. They feel more comfortable talking about their very personal concerns in a one-on-one private setting...just like you.
“Before you can have your baby, you have to attend childbirth classes wherein you openly discuss the sexual organs with people you barely know. You get used to it. You'll get so that when your instructor passes around a life-size plastic replica of the cervix, you'll all hold it up and make admiring comments, as if it were a prize floral arrangement. You'll get to know the uterus so well you'd recognize one anywhere. Also, you'll see actual colour movies of babies being born, so that you'll be prepared for the fact they come out looking like Mister Potato Head.”
- Dave Barry
“I don't know if I'll find any
clients. Why wouldn't people go to the hospital and take classes
there?”
There are many, many reasons why people want a PRIVATE Perinatal Educator rather than taking the PUBLIC classes at the hospital.
You have very young people who don't want to sit in a group of 20 other people and feel embarrassed.
Or you have older couples who are having their first child at age 40 and don't want to sit in a room filled with young people and look foolish because they have so many questions.
Why work through a strict curriculum with unnecessary levels of medical terminology when you can have a private educator give you the ANSWERS YOU WANT in layman's terms that YOU UNDERSTAND.
Many couples are busy working during the day, they need someone to visit them in their home outside of business hours – someone who is flexible and can accommodate their schedule - and they are willing to pay more for that.
Can I really make money doing this?
Take an honest look at the economy
these days - men are getting laid off...
...wouldn't it be an excellent thing for women to say: “LOOK, I make some money on the side!”
For example I have a couple of Doulas
who are making good money on the side. They are making $500 or $600
per labour, and maybe 2 or 3 per month.
People who are doing the childbirth education charge between $150-$200 per couple, for four or five sessions.
My students often find that this really is not much work, once you get it all set up. And they see it as a nice supplementary income...
But it's not only about the money.
Doula work requires a tremendous
level of responsibility, dedication and commitment. Even though you
may be only working 8-20 hours per month, a woman could go into
labour at any moment.
And she needs you – whether the labour is two hours or two days, you must be there for her! You must be able to drop whatever you're doing in a moments notice.
Some of our students who don't have this level of flexibility in their schedule decide to become Perinatal Educators instead. You can set your own schedule, make your own hours and earn a part time income educating and supporting couples. All while keeping your regular day job.
In fact, all of our programs are available during the weekends – so you can take this course on the side.
So, I graduated...now what?
If the course doesn't work out for you,
you're going to be on my case. You're going to sit here with me and
say: “Look, I took two courses from you. And you suggested to
me that I could make an income from this...but it's not
happening!”
I will say: “How are you making yourself known? Are you tapping into all the resources and participating in our community networking events? Are you projecting a professional, well-groomed, calm and confident image that a new couple would be drawn to...?”
I care about you after you graduate.
Other schools? Some of them give you the certificate, you hang it up on the wall – and that's it for them. There's nothing after that!
I experienced this MYSELF when I was certified. You pay a lot of money, you do some training online, and after you get your paper – that's it! As if you never existed!
And now I want to change that.
You can come here, and we sit together and talk it over until it's right for you.
Even after you graduate.
Add meaning and purpose to your life...
You can be there to support, to offer guidance, to nurture and to offer loving reassurance during a woman's wonderful journey to motherhood.
“Pregnancy itself is a healthy, normal occurrence – humans, unfortunately, are the only species with the ability to worry about it.”
- Fritzi Kallop
The anticipation of bringing a new life into the world fills a new mother with joy, delight and eagerness – and also worry and concerns. You can make a difference. Your clients can enjoy a more relaxed pregnancy, fewer complications during labour, and stronger mother/baby bonding – all thanks to you!
Your life becomes more meaningful.
My promise to you...
What makes me the happiest camper in
the land, is when I hear how happy my graduates are with the program!

even been one person who left who was not HAPPY!

“You can do anything in life that you set your mind to, provided it is powered by your heart.”
